We would like to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Sophia Mahmood Ali Foundation since it was first established. Though the past year has been extremely challenging, we are eternally grateful for the outpouring of love and support. We are proud to announce that the Sophia Mahmood Ali Foundation is officially a registered public charity registered under section 501(c)(3)!

The mission of the SMA Foundation is to make a difference in the world in any way that we can — one act of kindness at a time. We asked ourselves, What is something that we could do that would make Gulae proud? And so the SMA Foundation was formed. If you would like to follow our journey, share your own memories of Gulae, or contribute by volunteering or donating, here is the place to do so. 

We will continue to update you as much as possible, so please stay tuned and share this with everyone! Gulae was a vibrant and loving human being, and we would like to keep her memory alive through this foundation. Thank you for joining us in celebrating a loving sister, daughter, friend, and wife.

Gulae’s Garden

On April 21st, 2018 we planted a tree in Louisville, Kentucky in Gulae’s name. Mom likes to call the location where we planted the tree “Gulae’s Garden” and so the name has stuck! Gulae’s friends and family wanted a place where they were able to sit and think of Gulae in Louisville. The tree is located in Thurman Hutchins Park and is right beside a peaceful pond. Symbolically, this tree will continue to grow and provide a gift for this world from Gulae. A single tree can actually provide over 250 pounds of oxygen every year. I will continue to post updates about this first tree. Our goal is to plant trees all over the world in Gulae’s name!

We invite you to join Gulae’s Garden by planting a tree in your home and tending to it with love. Please send us a photo as well to add to the website.
